ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Telecommunications Fibre Optic Field Technician to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fibre optic telecommunications infrastructure, focusing on Outside Plant (OSP) networks and related technologies. This role involves fieldwork, splicing, diagnostics, and ensuring all work is performed to industry and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, commission, test, and maintain fibre optic network infrastructure across Sydney.
  • Perform Outside Plant (OSP) tasks, including cable hauling, splicing, and termination of fibre optic cables.
  • Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, and performance testing using specialized equipment (such as OTDRs and light meters).
  • Interpret network plans, follow technical documentation, and work collaboratively with field engineers and project teams.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with OH&S standards, industry guidelines, and quality requirements.
  • Perform maintenance and installation works on both aerial and underground network infrastructure.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant qualification in Telecommunications or Electrical Installations.
  • Proven experience in fibre optic networks, testing, and maintenance (Minimum 3 years required).
  • Practical experience with OTDRs, fusion splicers, and industry-standard tools.
  • Understanding of OH&S requirements and ability to work safely in field environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • High School diploma (Year 12) or equivalent.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence and ability to reliably commute to Sydney NSW 2000.
  • Legal work rights in Australia.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

  • NBN Approved Installer Accreditation
  • Fibre Optic Splicing Accreditation
  • Working at Heights training / Pole top rescue certification
  • Confined space training
  • Traffic control certification
  • First Aid & OH&S Training
  • High-Risk Work Licence / MR Licence
